Volvo Penta V8-380A-CE-PD-S Aquamatic Gasoline Sterndrive Engine

The Volvo Penta Aquamatic V8-380A-CE-PD-S pairs a 5.3-liter, 8-cylinder direct-injection gasoline engine, fitted with a catalyst and broadband oxygen sensors, with the twin-propeller Duoprop DPS drive. Cooling is by a closed freshwater system.

Aluminum makes up the cylinder block, cylinder head and cast oil pan, and the pistons are light and low-friction, so the engine and drive form a compact unit that is easier to install. Direct spark-ignition fuel injection enables a high compression ratio, while variable valve timing sets the valve events for the current speed and load.

Seawater is kept out of the engine internals by the closed-loop freshwater cooling, which helps prevent corrosion. The Easy Drain system drains the raw-water side in a few minutes, and an anti-siphon valve allows this afloat. The package also includes electronic engine control, a lightweight aluminum exhaust, an integrated kick-up function and service points within easy reach.
