Volvo Penta V6-280A-C SX Aquamatic Gasoline Sterndrive Engine

The Volvo Penta Aquamatic V6-280A-C SX is an integrated sterndrive package pairing a 4.3-liter, 6-cylinder direct-injection gasoline engine with a single-propeller SX drive. The engine is freshwater cooled through a closed-loop system.

The cylinder block and cylinder head are aluminum, the pistons are light and low-friction, and the oil pan is cast aluminum, keeping the engine and drive compact for an easier installation. Direct spark-ignition injection allows a high compression ratio, while variable valve timing tailors the valve events to speed and load across the rev range.

With closed-loop freshwater cooling, seawater never circulates inside the engine, which helps prevent internal corrosion. Easy Drain lets the raw-water side be emptied in a few minutes, with an anti-siphon valve so the boat can stay in the water. The package also has electronic engine control, a lightweight aluminum exhaust, an integrated kick-up function and easy-access service points.
