Volvo Penta IPS950 Pod Drive System with Twin D11 Engines, 950 HP
The Volvo Penta IPS950 is a pod-drive propulsion package with twin D11 marine diesels, each a 10.8-liter inline 6-cylinder rated at 725 HP at 2250 RPM. Forward-facing IPS pods with counter-rotating propellers are controlled helm to propeller through EVC.
Each D11 has a cast-iron cylinder block and head, electronic unit injectors, and a twin-entry turbo with compressor and charge-air cooler, with heat exchanger cooling. The steerable pods rotate independently for joystick docking, and the Dynamic Positioning System provides station-keeping.
Rubber-isolated engine mounts and exhaust routed through the pods into the prop wash reduce noise and vibration. Electronic Vessel Control (EVC) adds Glass Cockpit integration and redundant electronic systems, for recreational and commercial use. Emissions compliance covers EPA Tier 3, EU RCD Stage II and IMO NOx Tier II.
