Volvo Penta IPS800 Pod Drive System with Twin D11 Engines, 800 HP
The Volvo Penta IPS800 with twin D11 engines is an integrated pod-drive propulsion system carrying an 800 HP IPS rating. Each D11 is a 10.8-liter inline 6-cylinder marine diesel rated at 2250 RPM, with electronic unit injectors and a twin-entry turbo with charge-air cooler.
The IPS pods use forward-facing, counter-rotating propellers in undisturbed water, and a typical speed range of 20 to 40 knots is listed, depending on propeller. Exhaust is routed through the pods, and rubber engine mounts and soft suspension reduce noise and vibration. Cooling is by heat exchanger.
Electronic Vessel Control (EVC) integrates the engines, pods and helm electronics, with options such as Joystick Docking, the Dynamic Positioning System (DPS), Glass Cockpit displays, cruise control and single-lever mode. Listed applications include cruising and sport yachts, express cruisers, charter and commercial vessels, and repowers from shaft or sterndrive systems.
