Volvo Penta IPS600 Pod Drive System with Twin D6 Engines, 600 HP
The Volvo Penta IPS600 is an integrated engine-and-pod system with twin D6 marine diesels; the engine delivers 435 HP (320 kW) crankshaft power at 3500 RPM, Rating 5. Each 5.5-liter six-cylinder uses a turbo and compressor with charge-air cooler and common-rail injection.
The system is integrated from helm to propeller, with steerable pods, patented counter-rotating forward-facing propellers, integrated seawater and exhaust systems, and twin rubber suspension and sealing rings with soft-suspended engines. Exhaust exits through the pods into the prop wash. The engines have cast-iron blocks and heads and a balance shaft.
Electronic steering enables joystick maneuvering, and a hydraulic gear shift with Low-speed mode is standard. Main underwater components are nickel-bronze-aluminum alloy and stainless steel, propellers are offered for boat speeds of 20 to 40 knots, and several jackshaft lengths are optional. EVC supports Joystick Docking, Dynamic Positioning and Glass Cockpit; e-Key is standard.
