Volvo Penta IPS400 Pod Drive System with Twin D4 Engines, 400 HP
The Volvo Penta IPS400 is an integrated pod-drive system with twin D4 IPS inline 4-cylinder marine diesels, each 3.7 liters and rated at 3500 RPM, for 400 HP total system output. It is designed for mid-size motor yachts, express cruisers and leisure boats.
The IPS1 pods carry forward-facing, counter-rotating propellers for low-speed handling and joystick docking. Each D4 has a cast-iron block, common-rail injection and a turbocharger with charge-air cooler, and cooling is by heat exchanger. Soft-mounted engines and exhaust routed through the propeller wash reduce vibration and noise.
Volvo Penta Electronic Vessel Control (EVC) is standard and integrates Joystick Docking, engine monitoring and diagnostics, and Glass Cockpit compatibility. Emissions compliance covers EPA Tier 3 and EU RCD Stage II.
