Volvo Penta IPS1200 Pod Drive System with Twin D13 Engines, 1200 HP
The Volvo Penta IPS1200 is an integrated pod-drive propulsion package built around twin D13 marine diesels, each a 12.8-liter inline 6-cylinder engine rated at 2300 RPM. It is designed for large yachts and performance-oriented vessels.
Steerable, forward-facing pod drives operate in undisturbed water and give controlled low-speed docking and predictable handling at speed. Each D13 uses a heavy-duty cast-iron block and head, electronic unit injectors and dual-stage turbocharging with twin charge-air coolers, with heat exchanger cooling.
Rubber-isolated engine mounts reduce vibration and the exhaust is routed through the pods. Electronic Vessel Control (EVC) enables Joystick Docking, the Dynamic Positioning System (DPS), Glass Cockpit integration and built-in redundancy. Emissions compliance covers EPA Tier 3, EU RCD Stage II and IMO NOx Tier II.
