Volvo Penta IPS1050 Pod Drive System with Twin D13 Engines, 1050 HP
The Volvo Penta IPS1050 is an integrated pod-drive propulsion package powered by twin D13 marine diesels, each a 12.8-liter inline 6-cylinder engine rated at 2250 RPM. It is intended for large motor yachts, sport cruisers and performance vessels.
The steerable pods carry forward-facing, counter-rotating propellers that work in undisturbed water, for joystick docking and controlled slow-speed handling. Each D13 has a cast-iron block and head and dual-stage turbocharging with twin charge-air coolers, and cooling is by heat exchanger.
Soft-mounted engines, rubber-isolated pod assemblies and exhaust discharged through the propeller wash reduce noise and vibration. Electronic Vessel Control (EVC) is standard and supports Joystick Docking, the Dynamic Positioning System, Glass Cockpit integration and built-in redundancy. Emissions compliance covers EPA Tier 3, EU RCD Stage II and IMO NOx Tier II.
