Volvo Penta D2-75 Bobtail Marine Diesel Engine
The Volvo Penta D2-75 in bobtail form is a 2.2-liter, in-line 4-cylinder marine diesel supplied without a transmission. It uses an in-line injection pump driven from the camshaft and comes with freshwater cooling as standard.
A dynamically balanced design with rubber isolation and an inlet air silencer keeps vibration and noise down on board. The engine is built around a rigid block and is tuned for strong torque at low engine speeds, which helps when maneuvering in port, in tight spaces or against a strong wind.
Charging is handled by a built-in, load-sensing 115 alternator with an electronic sensor; it supplies more than 35 A at idle and roughly 100 A at cruising speed. Other features include EVC instrumentation with an NMEA interface, a dedicated oil change tube, a relay-activated starter solenoid and a large-capacity hot water outlet.
