Volvo Penta D1-20 Bobtail Marine Diesel Engine
The Volvo Penta D1-20 is a 0.8-liter, 3-cylinder in-line marine diesel engine using a camshaft-driven in-line injection pump and freshwater cooling. It is offered here as a bobtail, meaning it comes without a transmission.
Dynamic balancing and highly effective rubber insulation, combined with low engine speed and an intake air silencer, keep vibration and noise levels low for comfort aboard. The engine produces high torque at low revs, giving quick response when maneuvering in port, against a strong wind or in confined spaces.
Charging comes from a built-in load-sensing alternator that supplies more than 35 A at idle and approximately 100 A at cruising speed. Standard freshwater cooling keeps the operating temperature even and reduces internal corrosion. The engine also has an EVC and NMEA instrumentation interface, a special oil-change tube, a relay-activated starter solenoid and a large-capacity hot water outlet.
