A Suzuki 40 HP four-stroke outboard with a three-cylinder DOHC 12-valve engine and multi-point sequential electronic fuel injection. It is set up for remote steering, with a tiller kit available as an option, and has electric start and power trim and tilt.

Piston displacement is 57.4 cubic inches (941 cc) with a 2.85 x 2.99 in (72.5 x 76 mm) bore and stroke, and the operating range is 5,000-6,000 RPM through a 2.27:1 gear ratio. Features include Lean Burn Control, Troll Mode, Easy Start, solid-state direct ignition, an over-rev limiter, a low oil pressure caution, a timing chain, fresh water flushing and the Suzuki Anti-Corrosion System.

The L version has a 20-inch recommended transom height and weighs 229 lbs. Oil pan capacity is 2.9 qts (2.7 L) and the alternator is rated 12V 19A.
