The Mercury 5MXLH is a 5 HP single-cylinder four-stroke outboard with a 25-inch extra-long shaft, tiller throttle and shift, and manual start. It weighs 57 lbs, displaces 123 cc and runs 4,500–5,500 RPM at full throttle.

Several trim positions let the motor be set for running conditions and for shallow water, and exhaust exits through the propeller for quieter operation. It suits aluminum tiller boats, soft-hull inflatables, jon boats, utility boats and sailboats. Included are a 7.4 x 7.0-inch three-blade composite propeller, integrated carry handle, safety lanyard stop switch, 0.3-gallon internal fuel tank, tool kit and owner's manual.
